Do you hate digging through your pockets or purse to find your key fob? Well, Apple has recently filed a patent to ease the process of gaining access to your vehicle. The concept focuses on maximizing the proximity features already inside the vehicle. Other vehicles allow for the driver to access their vehicle via an app or keyless entry feature. However, this communication is done through a third party, On Star. The app must first communicate with On Star, that then communicates with the vehicle to perform the task, and then one more time back to the user so that they are notified if the request was completed or not. That seems like a lot of back and forth to simply unlock your vehicle.
Apple is approaching the idea of remotely accessing your vehicle from a completely different angle. They are proposing that the application communicates directly with the vehicle using the proximity feature the car already uses to communicate with the key fob. This method is said to be faster because the communication is being done directly with the vehicle, and not over the internet like the other systems that communicate via On Star.
Would you rather have your fob integrated into your phone? Or do you prefer a physical key fob?
We would love to hear from you!
