In what may be a game changer, Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) is offering certain new car owners the option of purchasing a bracelet that doubles as a key fob. The Active Key feature was first made available in the 2017 Jaguar F-Pace, and has since become available with the Prestige, R-Sport and S Models. This sleek, low profile activity band looks very similar to a Fitbit or activity tracker. However, the waterproof, shockproof band has the functionality of a key fob. Thus, eliminating the need to carry around a loose key fob while you’re out exploring. JLR designed this bracelet with their active, on-the-go customer base in mind.
The bracelet allows owners to leave their key fob locked safely inside their vehicle while they are out and about. Once they get back to their car, all they need to do is wave the bracelet near one of the hidden sensors on the vehicle and the doors will unlock. The bracelet functions on an internal transponder, which conveniently does not require a battery. The owner will never have to worry about the battery dying and being locked out of their vehicle without a key fob.
The popularity of these bands has surpassed even Jaguars expectations. Initially, expectations were that around 10% of eligible vehicle owners would purchase the Active Bracelet (priced at around $400). That number has jumped to around 40% on certain high-end models.
Would you be interested in purchasing an Activity Band instead of lugging around your key fob? We would love to hear from you!
